| City of Waxahachie Recieves Incentives From Oncor |
Waxahachie, TX - February 2, 2010 - For the second time this year, the City of Waxahachie will be awarded an incentive check from Oncor's Take A Load Off, TexasSM Government Facilities Program (GFP). The city will receive $3,064 for incorporating high efficiency lighting and air conditioning systems in the new Senior Center. Waxahachie first received incentives this July for upgrading air conditioning equipment at the Civic Center.
In addition to financial incentives, the GFP offers no-cost technical assistance to facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency upgrade projects. The incentive amount was determined by the total amount of energy the city will save. The new systems installed by Waxahachie will save more than 31,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions of about 2,500 gallons of gasoline, according to Environmental Protection Agency calculations.
"The Government Facilities Program has helped our city and our community by saving taxpayer dollars and improving public facilities," said City Manager Paul Stevens. "We will continue to work with Oncor to identify future efficiency opportunities."
The GFP worked with the city to involve personnel from all departments in the decision-making process so that everyone understood the financial benefits of investing in the project. "Energy efficiency just makes sound financial sense," said Charles Harris, Director of Finance. "Even though higher-performing equipment can cost more initially, the reduced energy use more than offsets that very quickly."
"We identified a real need for an energy efficiency program that specifically targets municipalities, especially as budgets are spread thin," said Paul Hernandez,Area Manager for Oncor. "By partnering with the local government to reduce energy costs, these valuable saved resources can be used for other needed projects." |
